RACING- NYTB unanimously approved the following objectives for the future of racing in New York

  1. The organization entrusted with the conduct of thoroughbred racing in New York should adhere to the highest standards of honesty, efficiency and accountability.

  2. The over-arching objective should be to establish and maintain the highest quality of thoroughbred racing anywhere.
    |
  3. There should be no significant diminution in the calendar of racing, and proposed changes should be subject to full and fair review by the constituencies most affected.
  4. The structure of racing and related sources of revenue should stimulate growth in purses. The Fund should remain intact and the revenue stream should keep the growth in this program in proportion to the growth in purses.

  5. The safety and well-being of horses and riders are paramount.  It is in the public’s interest to have racing conducted according to the highest standards of integrity and transparency in all aspects, including the promulgation and enforcement of medication rules.

  6. Emphasis should be placed on the establishment and maintenance of facilities geared to the comfort and pleasure of racing fans, and to incentives/rewards for the most loyal customers.

  7. The New York Stallion Stakes Series must be maintained and permitted to grow as a centerpiece of New York’s thoroughbred industry and as an integral component of NYTB’s revenue base.

  8. Improvements to the backstretch should be commensurate with the quality of racing New York should maintain.  This should include, but not be limited to, improvements to the barn area. Emphasis should be placed on creating a horse friendly environment, improving employee housing and living conditions and establishing appropriate recreational facilities.

  9. Purse parity and racing opportunities consistent with the New York-bred population are essential.
  10. As the representative of more than a thousand breeders and over 400 active farms throughout our state, NYTB intends to participate fully in whatever public or public/private processes may develop to chart the future of thoroughbred racing in New York.

AFFILIATIONSNYTB will continue to cooperate and partner with the various entities that support the industry and participate in the activities that support the continued success of thoroughbred breeding & racing in New York State in particular as well as at the national level.  This will include but not be limited to NYTHA, NYRA, Finger Lakes, Finger Lakes HBPA, the FUND, The NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, The NYS Farm Bureau and National Farm Bureau, American Horse Council, NYS Racing and Wagering Board, NTRA, TOBA, Harness Horse Breeders, the various sales companies and the NYS legislature.  As needed and if deemed appropriate NYTB will be ready, and willing to take a leadership role in these affiliations and participate in the activities of the same.
