On October 21, 2006 three scholarships were awarded to deserving students who were majoring in equine studies in a college in New York.

Perry Ann DiCiccio received the $1,000 Peggy Russell Memorial Scholarship. It was presented by John Russell.
Perry Ann is a junior at Cazenovia College in the Bachelor of Professional Studies degree program in Business Management with Equine Business Management specialization.
Kaitlyn Geen received a $1,000 NYTB Scholarship in Memory of Past President Jerry Nielsen. Kaitlyn is in her first year at SUNY Cobleskill enrolled as an equine studies major.
Antonia Natrigo received a $1,000 NYTB Scholarship from a grant provided by Thoroughbred Charities of America. She is a first year student at SUNY Morrisville and her goal is to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Equine Racing Management.
The students and their families joined NYTB members for lunch and an afternoon of great NY-bred racing in the annual Showcase Day at Belmont Park. The students presented the trophy to the winner of the 13th Running of the Sleepy Hollow
Chief’s Lake bred by NYTB members Eaton and Thorne, Inc., owned by Vinery Stable, trained by Scot Blasi and ridden by Garrett Gomez. The students will each receive a copy of the “win” photo as a reminder of their special day.
